The United States team, known as the Fierce Five, finished first in the qualification and won the gold medal in the final. Russia won the silver, and Romania won the bronze. It was Romania's 10th consecutive Olympic medal in the event, a streak that started in 1976.

2022–present: comeback In February 2023 WOGA coach Valeri Liukin confirmed to NBC that Douglas has been training at his gym. In July 2023 Douglas confirmed via Instagram that she had resumed training, with the goal of competing at the 2024 Olympics.

Douglas, a Virginia Beach native, started gymnastics at age 6 in 2002 and left her family in 2010 to train in West Des Moines, Iowa, under Liang Chow, who had led Shawn Johnson to four medals at the Beijing Games.

three Olympic gold medals Douglas has won three Olympic gold medals: All-around gold at the London 2012 Olympics and team gold at both London and the Rio 2016 Games. She also clinched team gold at the world championships in 2011 and 2015 and picked up an all-around silver at worlds in 2015.
