In 2004, McDonald's released their chicken selects. Unlike their nuggets, the selects were made with whole pieces of chicken breast that were battered and fried. They left the menu for a stint of time from 2013 to 2017, and when they returned they were rebranded as buttermilk crispy tenders.

McDonald's, according to Nation's Restaurant News (NRN), announced Friday they are temporarily taking the chicken tenders off the menu because of supply problems. With no artificial preservatives, colors or flavors, the chicken tenders are touted as made using 100% white meat chicken.

The fan-favorite menu item, then called Chicken Selects, first arrived on menus in 2004. However, in 2013, they were removed from menus nationwide. Four years later, chicken tenders made their way back onto menus as Buttermilk Crispy Tenders.

Chicken Selects were introduced in early 1998 for a limited time and offered again in early 2002 and late 2003 and then permanently starting in 2004. In the UK, they were launched on the "Pound Saver Menu", which offers various menu items for £0.99.

According to the USDA, cooked chicken will last three to four days in the refrigerator, and two to three months in the freezer. Eating cooked chicken after this point can result in foodborne illness - even at refrigerated temperatures, bacteria can still grow.

According to the USDA Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) cooked chicken will stay fresh for three to four days when stored in the fridge.
