chicken sandwiches (/ˌtʃɪkfɪˈleɪ/ CHIK-fil-AY, a play on the American English pronunciation of "filet") is an American fast food restaurant chain and the largest chain specializing in chicken sandwiches.

The chicken chain introduced cows and the message 'Eat mor Chikin' on a billboard in 1995. It's been so successful that Chick-fil-A has stuck with the campaign ever since. The cow campaign plays off the idea that cows want people to eat more chicken so they will in turn not be eaten.

Chick-fil-A does the occasional print ad or coupon mailer, but the most common traditional advertising methods used to market to its target audience are billboards, television ads and sponsorships.

In 1946, S. Truett Cathy opened a tiny diner called the Dwarf Grill (now known as The Dwarf House® restaurant) in Hapeville, Georgia. It was in this diner where Truett developed the signature original Chick-fil-A® Chicken Sandwich and the quality service for which the family-owned business is known.

It's a play on the “chicken fillet,” and that capital “A” is on purpose: it represents the “grade A” top quality chicken used in the now-famous sandwich. Truett Cathy, Chick-fil-A's founder, created the sandwich using whole, boneless 100-percent real chicken, a standard that remains today.

The Symbol of Success (SOS) program began in 1975 when Chick-fil-A founder Truett Cathy wanted to recognize and reward the company's highest performers. To this day it remains Chick-fil-A's highest honor, recognizing franchises that achieve 20 percent year-over-year growth in sales.

When we first opened our doors in 1967, our founder Truett Cathy wanted the company's name to reflect the top quality customers should expect each time they visited a restaurant. That's why he chose Chick-fil-A: “Chick” to represent our signature menu item, and “fil-A” as a play on the word “filet,” with a small twist.

Chick-fil-A's 15% mark put it firmly in the lead among all restaurant chains. The next closest was Starbucks, which was listed as the favorite by 12% of teens. Rounding out the top-5 were Chipotle (7%), McDonald's (6%) and Olive Garden (3%).
