Charlie Ergen is the cofounder and chairman of satellite TV provider Dish Network and satellite communications company EchoStar. Ergen first began selling satellite dishes out of the back of a truck in Colorado in 1980. He took Dish public in 1996. Today, it boasts over 11 million subscribers.

Today's launch brings the size of DISH Network's satellite constellation to 15 - the largest fleet in the industry. Built by Space Systems/Loral, EchoStar XIV launched on an International Launch Services Proton/Breeze M vehicle from the Baikonur Cosmodrome in Kazakhstan at 2:27 p.m. ET on Saturday, March 20.

A separate band is used for the signal to your home to prevent interference.
