Set in New York City, Thanks for Sharing centers around three people undergoing a 12-step process to recover from their sexual addiction. Adam has been abstinent for five years. He's shown walking the streets of New York, tempted by sexy ads and gorgeous women on his way to work.

It means I appreciate the time you took to post this, and I'm glad that you shared this moment with us.

The movie also accurately shows how sex addicts tend to attract and glom onto other damaged people. In essence, their ability to differentiate a healthy relationship choice from a profoundly disturbing one is broken.

Emily Meade as Becky was the standout for me.

How to Respond to Thank You (In Any Situation)

  1. You're welcome.
  2. You're very welcome.
  3. That's all right.
  4. No problem.
  5. No worries.
  6. Don't mention it.
  7. It's my pleasure.
  8. My pleasure.

“Thanks for sharing” is correct, since only a noun form, in this case a gerund, can act as an object of a preposition.

It's no different than telling people “I could care less” doesn't mean what they think it means. The phrase they want is “I couldn't care less.” When people say “thanks for sharing” they think they're leaving a nice comment - but it's actually kind of dismissive. Obviously they don't know that, or they wouldn't say it.

"Thanks for sharing." Often, the statement in question is relevant to a conversation, but random enough to risk derailing it, and so the phrase is used in an attempt to dismiss the comment made and carry on with the (theoretically more important) ongoing discussion.

It has a couple of meanings: thank you for sharing the info. It was helpful to me. Ex: you gave them career advice, told them about a job opportunity, etc. thank you for sharing something about yourself or life that was deeply personal and private.

"Thank you for sharing" has become a bit of a trope. If it's intended as such, then what's being expressed is indeed snark. If, on the other hand, it's meant sincerely, then the best bet is to rephrase it into something that isn't a cliche. That's actually more difficult than it sounds.

In fact, the urban dictionary gives this definition of it: a sarcastic phrase meaning "that was really gross/inappropriate/stupid and you're an idiot." Comes from group therapy, where everyone is encouraged to share their feelings and is recognized for sharing.
