Jack Hanna built the Columbus Zoo and Aquarium into one of the nation's best. He then captivated national audiences on David Letterman's late-night talk show, "Good Morning America" and a number of his own Emmy-winning animal series that still run in syndication.

Hanna was officially diagnosed with Alzheimer's in 2019, and retired from the zoo in 2020, shortly after his final stage performance with animals.

Hanna was raised on a farm in Tennessee and showed an early interest in pursuing a career with animals, volunteering to work for his family's veterinarian at the age of 11. After he earned (1969) a bachelor's degree from Muskingum College, New Concord, Ohio, Hanna and his wife opened a pet shop in Knoxville.

On August 10, 2016, CBS renewed the series for a third season, which premiered on June 29, 2017. There will not be a season 4 as it was cancelled due to low ratings.
