Frequently Asked Questions about senokot laxative tea tv spot, 'nature and science'

To relieve occasional constipation, Senokot® Regular Strength is made from the senna plant, refined by science to be reliable. Senokot® Regular Strength can be taken at bedtime and generally helps relieve constipation in 6-12 hours. When taken at bedtime.

It contains 2 medications: sennosides and docusate. Sennosides are known as stimulant laxatives. They work by keeping water in the intestines, which helps to cause movement of the intestines. Docusate is known as a stool softener.

Do not take this medication for more than 7 days unless directed by your doctor. Serious side effects may occur with overuse of this medication (see also Side Effects section). It may take 6 to 12 hours before this medication causes a bowel movement.

Mechanism of Action: A bulk-producing laxative that decreases surface film tension by mixing liquid and bowel contents. Therapeutic Effect: Increases infiltration of liquid to form a softer stool. Pharmacokinetics: Minimal absorption from the GI tract. Acts in small and large intestines.

You may want to take this product at bedtime, as it typically produces a bowel movement within 6 to 12 hours. This medicine is for short-term use only. You shouldn't take it for longer than a week without first checking with your doctor.

Taking your dose of Senokot® Extra Strength at bedtime is recommended to help relieve constipation overnight. Refer to the Senokot® Extra Strength Laxatives package for dosing instructions or see the chart below.

Take senna for a few days only and no longer than a week. If you take it for longer, your body can start to rely on it, rather than your bowels doing the work on their own. If you are still constipated after taking senna for 3 days, talk to your doctor.

Senokot vs. Dulcolax suppositories work faster, usually within 15 to 60 minutes. Dulcolax can cause cramping, stomach pain, and diarrhea. This can also happen with Senokot, but it may be better tolerated.

Adults and children 12 years of age and older - At first, 2 tablets once a day. Your doctor may increase your dose as needed. However, the dose is usually not more than 4 tablets two times a day.

Senna may be unsafe when taken long-term or in high doses. Using senna for longer than 2 weeks may cause your bowels to stop functioning normally. Long-term use may also cause a serious electrolyte imbalance.

Senna takes about 8 hours to work. It's usual to take it at bedtime so it works overnight. Drink plenty of fluids (6 to 8 glasses a day) while you're taking senna or your constipation may get worse.

Taking your dose of Senokot-S® at bedtime is recommended to help relieve constipation overnight.
