Dulcolax Adult Tablets are used for the short-term relief of occasional constipation. Dulcolax Adult Tablets contain bisacodyl and belong to a group of medicines known as stimulant laxatives, which increase bowel movements. This medicine does not help with weight loss.

Dulcolax is a laxative that stimulates bowel movements. Dulcolax is used to treat constipation or to empty the bowels before surgery, colonoscopy, x-rays, or other intestinal medical procedure. Dulcolax tablets generally produce a bowel movement in 6 to 12 hours.

We recommend taking the dose 30 to 60 minutes before your normal bedtime to produce a bowel movement the next morning. For children under 12 years of age, refer to the Dulcolax® Laxative Tablets Drug Facts for dosing information.

How many tablets can I take? Adults and children 12 years of age and over can take 1 to 3 tablets in a single daily dose for up to 7 days. If this is the first time taking a laxative for constipation, we recommend starting with the lower dose (1 tablet), increasing up to 3 the following days if needed.

Prolonged excessive use may lead to fluid and electrolyte loss and potassium deficiency. Laxatives should be used for no more than 5 days, as infrequently as possible, (with a maximum of 2 taken per day). If you need to take them for longer, please ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice.

Long-term use of DULCOLAX is not recommended. If you use DULCOLAX every day, you should consult with your doctor to find out the cause of your constipation. Long-term and excessive use of DULCOLAX may cause an imbalance of salts in the body (including low potassium), muscle weakness and kidney problems.

Use and dosage Do not take Dulcolax® Laxative Tablets with foods or medications that reduce the acidity of the upper gastrointestinal tract such as milk or antacids (like Tums® or Rolaids®). Adults and children 12 years of age and over: 1 to 3 tablets in a single daily dose.

Bisacodyl (Dulcolax®) 5 mg: 1-2 tablets at bedtime. May increase to 2-3 tablets, twice daily. Stool softener ("Mush"): For stools that are hard or like rabbit pellets.

After taking Dulcolax tablets you should have a bowel movement within 12 to 72 hours. Dulcolax suppositories generally produces bowel movements in 15 minutes to 1 hour. Different people may however feel the effects at different times. Dulcolax (bisacodyl) is a laxative that stimulates bowel movements.

How many Dulcolax® Tablets can I take? Adults and children over 10 years of age can take 1 to 2 tablets in a single daily dose. It is suggested to take the tablets within 30 to 60 minutes before your normal bedtime to produce a bowel movement the next morning. Children 6-10 years can take one tablet at night.
