Salonpas patches are made of thin, stretchable fabric containing two active ingredients that work together as a topical analgesic: menthol (3%)3 and methyl salicylate4 (10%). A single patch is reportedly effective for 8 to 12 hours.

Pain relief patches work by delivering a steady stream of medication to the targeted area through the skin, also known as transdermal delivery. This method allows for a steady absorption of the drug, helping to maintain a consistent level of relief over a prolonged period.

This medication is used to treat minor aches and pains of the muscles/joints (such as arthritis, backache, sprains). Capsaicin works by decreasing a certain natural substance in your body (substance P) that helps pass pain signals to the brain. Menthol works by causing the skin to feel cool and then warm.

The thinness and flexibility of Salonpas® Pain Relief Patch makes them extremely discreet and allows them to stick firmly to any shape of the body, even over joints. Salonpas® Pain Relief Patch can be worn for up to 12 hours, day and night, and is clinically proven to provide long-lasting relief.

At the point of application, the patch's adhesive secures it to the skin, and the drugs contained in the patch will begin to permeate into the bloodstream. The patch will continue to administer its Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients (APIs) until either they are fully absorbed or the patch is removed.

Salonpas Pain Patch (for the skin) is used for temporary relief of minor aches and pains caused by strains, sprains, arthritis, bruising, nerve pain, simple backache, or pain in the lower spine. Salonpas Pain Patch may also be used for purposes not listed in this medication guide.

Can I use Salonpas® Pain Relief Patch on an ongoing basis? Salonpas® Pain Relief Patch temporarily relieves symptomatic pain associated with strains and sprains. If your symptoms persist beyond 3 days, you should stop using and seek medical attention from your doctor.

Lidocaine patches typically work best for nerve pain as they temporarily block nerve signals transmitting the pain sensations. Icy Hot and Biofreeze patches use temperature sensations to distract the brain but do not impact the transmission of those nerve pain signals.

This product is used to help reduce itching and pain from certain skin conditions (such as scrapes, minor skin irritations, insect bites). It may also be used to help relieve nerve pain after shingles (infection with herpes zoster virus). Lidocaine belongs to a class of drugs known as local anesthetics.

After a Duragesic® patch is applied, fentanyl passes into the skin a little at a time. A certain amount of the medicine must build up in the skin before it is absorbed into the body. Up to a full day (24 hours) may pass before the first dose begins to work.

If you start using the patch during the first 5 days of your period, it will start working right away and you won't need backup birth control. For example, if you get your period Monday morning, you can start using the patch anytime until Saturday morning and be protected from pregnancy right away.

If you start using the patch on the first day of your period, it starts working straight away. This means you can have sex without getting pregnant. If you start using it on any other day, you need to use an extra form of contraception, such as condoms, for the first 7 days.
