Black Sails promises a lot of action and intrigue to its fans. The characters are big, the stakes and the production values are high, and the killing is intimate and ugly. When Black Sails did take to the seas, it was staggering.
Flint and his crew are fictional. Flint, Silver, Billy Bones, Ben Gunn, and Maddie (kind of) are from Treasure Island. The Guthries, Max, Gates and most of the minor characters are entirely original. Nassau was real, and its portrayal in the show is pretty darn accurate.
Either way, it's the happy ending Flint deserved, and Madi eventually realizes Silver did the best he could for their love, and she returns to his side. It is, on its surface, the kind of happy ending the creators never intended to deny their audience.
Black has not always been the fast look for sails, but lately more and more black sails are showing up on the water. Why? The simple answer is that many sails are now made with carbon fibers - the strongest load-carrying material in sails - and carbon is black.
Black Sails was definitely a series ahead of its time, not just in pirate media but in genre storytelling on the whole, and the map it laid out would lead to many similar elements playing out in shows that would soon follow, like Game of Thrones and The Witcher.
Black Sails is just a flat out awesome show that is so addicting that once you start watching it, you can't stop! It's the prequel to "Treasure Island." It didn't get nearly the attention that it deserved at the time and that's probably because it was on STARZ when they were just branching out into original tv shows.
Definitely. Black Sails is one of my favourite top 5 TV-series. GOT TV-show is great for S1, but beyond that I recommend reading the books over watching the show (although in some respects S2-S4 are doable). Can you recommend some interesting TV series of the same quality as Game of Thrones or Black Sails?
Parents need to know that Black Sails heads into choppy territory in terms of sexual content and language -- and it's pretty violent, too. That means you'll see full frontal female nudity, simulated multipartner sex, and characters involved in bisexual relationships.
Black Sails won 3 Primetime Emmys during its run, as well as several more awards (and many more nominations), and for good reason.
Follows Captain Flint and his pirates twenty years prior to Robert Louis Stevenson's classic novel "Treasure Island."
It actually has a lot more to offer, including a complex plot and a compelling roster of characters -- both fictional and factual -- that combine to create an effective fantasy world. Of course, Black Sails was designed for adults, and there's plenty of iffy content here to give parents pause.
Black Sails was definitely a series ahead of its time, not just in pirate media but in genre storytelling on the whole, and the map it laid out would lead to many similar elements playing out in shows that would soon follow, like Game of Thrones and The Witcher.
