A treasure hunter, Hagen finds a mysterious radioactive pool of protoplasm in a cave. Immersing himself in it by accident, he is transformed into a malleable clay-like form which could be shaped into almost anything he desires.

Weaknesses. Vulnerability to Water: Being made of clay-like substances, which is like mud, Karlo is vulnerable to water and water-based substances. Having enough of said substances poured into his body starts breaking down its bonding ability and making Clayface weaker.
