The pistol putter grip is different from the straight grip in that the hands are positioned at different heights on the grip. The lower hand is more on the grip.

Putter grip profiles fall into one of 6 categories: Circle, Oval, Flat Oval, Pistol, Flat Wide, and Mod Pistol. One simplified method of determining putter grip size is to take the measurement of the width. Some manufacturers created their own sizing terms, like Super Stroke's 1.0, 2.0, 3.0, and 5.0.

Then, the forefinger of your non-dominant hand overlaps your dominant hand's fingers or interlocks with the pinky on your dominant hand.

Many leading professional golfers, such as Tiger Woods use the interlocking grip. Place your hands on the golf club and intertwine your pinky finger on the trailing hand with the index finger on the lead hand. This is a good grip for people with smaller hands.

Super Stroke grips are numbered in terms of their thickness or diameter - 1.0, 2.0, 3.0 and the thickest 5.0. The 1.0 has a diameter of 1 inch while the largest the 5.0 has a diameter of 1.52 inches.

Pistol grip. Advantage is better stability in gripping and controlling what you are firing at. Disadvantage, if you have to go prone, grip will raise weapon off ground as much as 3″ to 4″ when you might want to be lower.

The granulate texture provides a very positive grip in all conditions. It is very aggressive in nature and is often compared to skateboard tape or sandpaper. The granulate texture is typically preferred by those that open carry, shoot competitively, and/or use during tactical operations.

Fancy French or Circassian walnut is considered by many to be the finest of all grip material. It is easily worked, serves the gun well, looks great, and most varieties take and hold checkering well. Carved wood grips are sometimes seen, but ivory shows carving better than wood.
