The electric trolling motor was invented by O.G. Schmidt in 1934 in Fargo, North Dakota, when he took a starter motor from a Ford Model A, added a flexible shaft, and a propeller. Because his manufacturing company was near the Minnesota/North Dakota border, he decided to call the new company Minn Kota.

Building their first electric marine motor in 1934, Minn Kota's founder O. G. Schmidt derived the company's name from the business' close location between the Minnesota and North Dakota state border.

If you want a foot pedal and are used to the cable drive trolling motors then the Ultrex is definitely the choice. I hate using a foot pedal, never have, never will. Ulterra is the way to go if you got the pockets. If not, the Terrova is excellent.
