The 501 jeans are a button fly. The 514 jeans are slightly lower rise, with a zipper fly, and slightly narrower leg openings than the 501 jeans.

The 514 is very similar to the 501 in fit. The 514's are like low rise 501's with a zipper instead of buttons. The 514 is a "slim" cut jean and is just a little trimmer in the waist and thighs than a 501 ...but not so as you'd notice. The legs are straight and have the same leg opening as the 501's.

The standard jeans are the 550 (Relaxed; loose fitting), 514 (straight fit; basically a regular fitting jean) , and 511 (Slim fit), and all of them have a taper fit as well; 541 (Relaxed/Loose fit w/ taper knees down), 502 (regular fit with a taper knees down), 512 (Slim fit w/ taper knees down).

505 sits below the waist and is a “regular” fit with a straight leg. 514 Sits below the waist with a trim fit and a straight leg.

For the old-school technique, buy true to size in the waist and two sizes up in length. Wear them in the tub and keep them on to dry. For those who want to machine wash and dry the jeans, we recommend sizing up. For your waist, increase 1" for sizes 27"-36", 2" for 38"-48", and 3" for 50" and up.

The 514 and 511 have identical waistband sizes and identical rises - all that means is how far the jeans go up on your belly when you wear them. The big difference is that the 514's are designed to add more room around your hips and legs.
