What is Hawaiian BBQ Sauce? Hawaiian BBQ sauce is a sweet and sticky BBQ sauce that gives you a classic “taste of the islands.” It's made from a ketchup base with the addition of pineapple, soy sauce, garlic, ginger, and brown sugar. It's similar to a Kansas City Style BBQ Sauce with a distinctive Hawaiian twist.

The commonest lava of all the Hawaiian volcanoes is the type known as olivine basalt. Its most abundant constituent is the light-colored mineral labradorite, which is a variety of plagioclase feldspar (see vocabulary page 60) containing more lime than soda. When lava erupts it is made up of a slush of crystals, liquid, and bubbles. The liquid "freezes" to form volcanic glass. Chemically lava is made of the elements silicon, oxygen, aluminum, iron, magnesium, calcium, sodium, potassium, phosphorus, and titanium (plus other elements in very small concentrations.

Basaltic lava looks like it should be delicious because at 1000–1200°C, it glows these bright, sugar-promising colours, and it hits a viscosity that just looks enticingly gooey.
