A crayon (or wax pastel) is a stick of pigmented wax used for writing or drawing. Wax crayons differ from pastels, in which the pigment is mixed with a dry binder such as gum arabic, and from oil pastels, where the binder is a mixture of wax and oil.
This process is the same for all Crayola crayon colors. The paraffin wax is melted and mixed together with pre-measured amounts of color pigments. We purchase the powder pigments and either use individual colors or mix the pigments to produce the many colors of Crayola crayons.

Every one of the iconic art supplies are made at a factory in Easton, Pennsylvania. The plant churns out the top-selling crayons at a rate of 650 crayons per minute, with a total production of up to 13.5 million per day in 400 different colors. On average, the facility makes 3 billion Crayola crayons per year.
