Parasite tells the story of a poverty-stricken family, the Kims, who cunningly place themselves in the service of the Parks, an obscenely wealthy household who have been unknowingly harboring a stranger in their basement for years.

The tragic ending of these three families has life lessons for all of us to learn. First, we can not be parasites. We can not be dependent on other generous people for our necessities and comforts in life. We can stand on our own two feet – if we only try hard enough.

We can't say it's entirely inspired by one particular event, as far as Bong Joon Ho has confirmed it. What we can surmise is that the characters and families involved in Parasite take inspiration from similar faces Bong Joon Ho encountered when he was in his 20s.

Though a work of fiction, the Oscar-winning film Parasite -- and its message -- was inspired by a real-life incident in director Bong Joon-ho's past.

Parasite serves as a critique of an imbalanced society. In the film, we are introduced to two families, the Kims and the Parks. Starting off as a black comedy about the down-on-their-luck Kim family, the film follows the Kims weaseling themselves into the wealthy Park family's as the help.

At its core, his story is one about learning to believe in yourself and persevere to accomplish your dreams. When we first meet Sonny, he doesn't really have a direction in life. This lack of direction makes it seem pretty far-fetched that he will be able to build successful rockets.

Aside from describing the poor leeching money off the rich, the Park family is also a parasite. Without the ability to wash dishes or tidy their house, they use their money to exploit poor families with their cheap labour. In a way, they, too, are parasites in society.

It's alternately funny, shocking, and thoughtful, but it's also quite mature. Expect a few scenes of extremely strong violence, blood, and gore, with stabbing, fighting, hitting with blunt objects, and death. One character gets trapped in a noose, and another is knocked down concrete stairs.

GOLDFARB: Parasite, director Bong Joon Ho's latest masterpiece, is a film about many things: class warfare, the indignities of capitalism, the eternal search for a WiFi signal. Less obviously, it's also a work of climate fiction that illustrates the very real ways global warming worsens inequality.

You can't go wrong with no plans. We don't need to make a plan for anything. It doesn't matter what will happen next. Even if the country gets destroyed or sold out, nobody cares.

The iconic 90's Christmas film Home Alone is about a lot of things: family; independence; resourcefulness; organisation; the importance of not relying on technology to wake you up before a flight. But above all, it's about preventing theft.

“Life really isn't that cut-and-dried, and everyone's a little bit of good and bad. Some people are more of one than the other, but ultimately, that's what makes us human.” We talked about some of the characters who were good at first, and I used the example of the main protagonists, Agatha and Sophie.

The movie ends with Ki-woo back in his own basement, just as imprisoned as his father but by economic circumstances rather than legal ones. But that's what makes the ending such a gut-punch: it's about a fantasy.

The storytelling in this film is exceptional, with every line of dialogue, every camera movement, every cut working artfully together to weave a complex narrative that frequently jumps genres in surprising ways.
