The View-Master is a vintage tool that presents three-dimensional images. Although the stereoscope had been the chosen source for viewing images for learning and entertainment for decades, the invention of the View-Master meant that people put their stereoscopes aside in favor of a newer form of virtual reality.

The view master was first introduced at the New York World's Fair (1939-1940.) Made by Sawyer's Photo Services, the device showed stereoscopic three-dimensional pictures. Originally intended as an educational device for adults, the view master soon become a popular children's toy.

These stereoscopic images, generated by the computer or the headset, are projected onto two lenses in front of each eye. Motion tracking then takes place so that the user's head movements are reflected on the screen. In addition, the field of vision is close to that of a human, i.e. 180°.

The lens will split the video image into two and calibrate them into a stereoscopic 3D image, which is what you see on the screen. Thanks to built-in sensors, the environment changes subtly, as you look around, shift the focus of your eye, or raise your hands.

While Graves and Gruber are credited with the creation of the View-Master, it was Harrison who turned it into an attractive and user-friendly toy that was celebrated as a classic by induction into the National Toy Hall of Fame in 1999.
