SEA OF SHADOWS SEA OF SHADOWS follows a team of dedicated scientists, high-tech conservationists, investigative journalists and courageous undercover agents as well as the Mexican Navy as they put their lives on the line to save the last remaining vaquitas and bring the vicious international crime syndicate to justice.

The sad plight of the vaquita – an endangered species of porpoise to be found in the Sea of Cortez off the Mexican coast – is the subject of this earnest, but frankly rather precious and slightly self-admiring documentary from National Geographic, executive-produced by Leonardo DiCaprio.

Richard LadkaniSea of Shadows / Director This gripping National Geographic doc from Richard Ladkani unfolds like a thriller, investigating how a rare species is being wiped out as a consequence of the quest for profits.

At least the first two thirds of Sea of Shadows feels like the characters have no purpose or direction. Much of this portion of the novel is spent wandering around being lost and having love/hate flirtations with the book's two love interests (one for each girl, not a love triangle).

Native to Mexico, their scientific name, Phocoena sinus means “porpoise of the gulf”. Vaquita is Spanish for “little cow”. Their other common names are Gulf of California harbor porpoise, cochito, and vaquita marina. They were not discovered or named until 1958 when three skulls were found on the beach.

Recent sightings of live vaquita, including calves, give conservationists hope. The fact that vaquita are still reproducing indicates that there is still time to reverse the species' decline. If the threat of gillnets can be eliminated, the vaquita might stand a chance at recovery.

You don't have to visit a country to set a book there of course but for me, it definitely helped. The Ship of Shadows is set during the Golden Age of Piracy, in 1716, but I used my own experiences of Spain and Morocco to root the book in the settings and bring it all to life.

Roseanne Liang Shadow in the Cloud is a 2020 New Zealand-American action horror film directed by Roseanne Liang, from a screenplay by Liang and Max Landis, starring Chloë Grace Moretz, Beulah Koale, Taylor John Smith, Callan Mulvey and Nick Robinson.

Alessandra and Kallias do fall in love eventually, but it doesn't feel quite real. Nothing really seems real after a while. The plot is too bland to actually be exciting and the situation in which Alessandra and Kallias find themselves are quite bad.

I would recommend this book to any child over the age of 12 because it does get a little violent but it is up to you if you think your child can handle it. This story had great role models and overall is a wonderful tale!

The vaquita is a shy member of the porpoise family. Vaquitas are the most endangered of the world's marine mammals. Less than 20 vaquitas remain in the wild, and entanglement in illegal gillnets is driving the species toward extinction. Vaquitas have the smallest range of any whale, dolphin, or porpoise.

The Vaquita Is the Smallest Cetacean Species In the World This makes them the smallest sea mammal in the world! The vaquita has unique facial features, such as black rings around its eyes and black curved lips, which resemble the look of a smiling panda.

Unsustainable and illegal fishing practices are the main drivers pushing vaquita to extinction, particularly due to bycatch from illegal fishing. Vaquitas share waters with the much sought-after totoaba fish and fishing nets inadvertently catch and drown the porpoise.
