Trifexis® (spinosad + milbemycin oxime) for Dogs. Trifexis® is a beef-flavored tablet that kills fleas and prevents flea infestations, prevents heartworm disease, and treats and controls adult hookworm, roundworm and whipworm infections.

Trifexis® is a chewable prescription medication used in dogs 8 weeks of age or older and at least 5 pounds to prevent and treat flea infestations, adult hookworm, adult roundworm, and adult whipworm infections. It is also used to prevent heartworm disease.

Trifexis contains two active substances, spinosad and milbemycin oxime.

8 weeks Trifexis is for dogs and puppies 8 weeks of age or older. Trifexis should not be used on puppies or dogs under 5 lbs.

Typically, a normal side effect of Trifexis that can occur in dogs is vomiting. That said, this doesn't tend to be a long-lasting or damaging side effect, but more one of brief discomfort. Some other side effects may include: Appetite loss.

30 minutes How long does it take for Trifexis to kick in? Trifexis, a monthly chewable tablet for dogs, begins to kill fleas within 30 minutes of administration and prevents flea infestations within 24 hours. It also begins to kill heartworm larvae and eggs within a month and prevents heartworm disease within 3 months.

In a controlled study, Trifexis was 100% effective in eradicating adult fleas (C. felis), and on day 37, it proved to be between 97% and 98%.

30 minutes This once-a-month medication begins working to kill fleas in 30 minutes with complete elimination within 4 hours of giving the tablet to your dog. As for whipworm, roundworm, and hookworm, the results for efficacy are as follows: Hookworms (A. caninum): 99.8% after 7 days.

TRIFEXIS should be administered at monthly intervals beginning within 1 month of the dog's first seasonal exposure and continuing until at least 3 months after the dog's last seasonal exposure to mosquitoes (see EFFECTIVENESS). TRIFEXIS may be administered year round without interruption.

Trifexis should not be given on an empty stomach. Doing so increases the chance of vomiting. Taking with food also speeds up the absorption of the medication into the bloodstream.
