Frequently Asked Questions about seiko men's prospex kinetic gmt

“Kinetic” is one of our unique watches, which contains an internal electrical generator operated by the kinetic movement of the user's wrist. The generated electricity is stored in a rechargeable battery that requires replacement less frequently than the conventional cell battery in a quartz watch. Kinetic.

The PROSPEX, as the name implies, simply means “Professional Specifications”.

If the watch is regularly serviced and maintained, it can last for decades. However, if the watch is neglected or mistreated, its lifespan can be significantly shortened. Seiko recommends that the Seiko Kinetic Perpetual Men's Watch be serviced every three to five years.

The thing is that kinetic watches are basically automatic watches with greater power reserves, which also means better accuracy (automatic watches lose some after they run out of power). On the other side, the capacitor in the kinetic watch needs occasional replacement, which puts a con on the kinetic side.

Automatic watches are only powered by the movement of your wrist, while a kinetic watch is powered by your movement. Automatic watches require less maintenance, but they don't always keep accurate time. Kinetic watches require more maintenance, but they are more accurate than automatic watches.

The electric energy generated while the watch is worn on your wrist is stored in the KINETIC ELECTRICITY STORAGE UNIT (KINETIC E.S.U.). It is a power source completely different from conventional batteries for watches, and therefore, this watch does not require battery replacement.

Just like the original diver's instrument, every Seiko Prospex watch that's been launched since has been tailored to the wrists of adventurers and thrill seekers, those that need a luxury diver's watch that will not only withstand the pressures of deep water but everyday life on land.

As mentioned earlier, the movement quality in the Prospex range can vary significantly compared to Seiko 5. Entry-level Prospex can have the same movements as the Seiko 5 range. In contrast, mid-tier and high-end Prospex models can have more well-regulated movements and finish than what is available in Seiko 5 models.

Okay at this point the old batteries should just pop out pretty easily. Okay now time for the new. One.

A kinetic watch will keep time for far longer than an automatic when not worn and this can be for many months – an automatic's power reserve will last a few days at best. (The Panerai Luminor 1950 10-Days Automatic Ceramica, has a ten-day reserve and this is considered exceptional.)

Automatic watches are only powered by the movement of your wrist, while a kinetic watch is powered by your movement. Automatic watches require less maintenance, but they don't always keep accurate time. Kinetic watches require more maintenance, but they are more accurate than automatic watches.

After unlocking the screw, slowly turn the crown clockwise to wind the main-spring. Take care not to press down the crown. As for manual winding, if you give the crown five full rotations, it provides the power to run the watch for approximately ten hours.

● Guideline of power reserve in the KINETIC E.S.U. Wearing the watch continuously for 12 hours will accumulate approximately one additional day of power reserve. If you wear the watch every day for 12 hours a day over a month, for example, approximately one month of power reserve will be secured in the KINETIC E.S.U.
