Genie (HR34, HR44, HR54) is a 5 tuner HDDVR receiver. Mini Genie Clients are not receivers, so have no tuners, they are extensions. Genie keeps 2 tuners to itself for Picture in Picture. So Genie and up to 3 Clients (4 TVs total) can be in use at one time.
There is no directv internet "modem" that has anything to do with connecting your internet, there is however the wireless video bridge which connects wireless genie minis to the genie, which may look like a modem.
Can I get internet through DIRECTV? No, you can't get internet service through DIRECTV because it's strictly a satellite TV service. If you're looking to bundle internet with DIRECTV service, we recommend checking out internet plans from AT&T and CenturyLink.
DIRECTV is received by a satellite dish and thus does not need your internet connection.
Connect the Genie HD DVR to Wi-Fi manually
Press MENU on your remote. Select Settings > Internet Setup > Connect Now. If you're reconnecting to the internet, select Reconnect Now. After the system checks the connection status, select Set Up Wireless.
The HR44/54 Genie do have WiFi built in to connect to the internet, the HS17 Genie2 also has a WVB built in to connect to the C41W/C61W clients.
