What is SimpliSafe? SimpliSafe is a no-contract, DIY-installed alarm system that offers affordable professional monitoring plans so someone is always keeping an eye on your house. And that includes protection from things like fires, floods, and carbon monoxide leaks.

"Motion Events" enables the camera to trigger when there's someone or something in view - and sends an event on your Timeline whenever it does. And "Motion Notifications" sends those timeline events as a Push Notification to your phone.

Make sure the setup button is facing the ceiling. Place the sensor in the corner. Six feet off the ground press and hold the sensor in place for 15 seconds to adhere to the wall.

In other words, the camera will only record when the system is in AWAY when motion is detected. You can have the camera record in either OFF or HOME by changing your settings as follows: Tap on the Cameras tab at the bottom of the SimpliSafe® App.

SimpliSafe does not require a monitoring service. With a free plan, you can view live footage from your cameras. However, the system doesn't provide alerts unless you purchase the camera monitoring or 24/7 professional monitoring plans.

You can use SimpliSafe without Wi-Fi if you choose a monthly monitoring plan that includes cellular service. However, you would need Wi-Fi to support any video cameras on the home security system. If you're in a location with poor cellular service, then you would also need to depend on the Wi-Fi connection.

However, if you've experienced one, there are a few potential issues that may cause them:

• Direct sunlight hitting the sensor can trigger a false alarm.
• Heating vents located in the room.
• Pets that are able to get too close to the sensor.

Don't place a motion sensor where it can be caught by direct sunlight: That means you'll need to avoid placing the sensor in a position where sunlight from windows might confuse the sensor. Such a placement also means an intruder would walk directly toward the sensor, which the sensor is not as good at detecting.

about 400 ft away SimpliSafe's sensors have a range of 800ft over open air (so if it was placed outside with nothing in the way.) In a home, physical and wireless factors may decrease the range a bit, but your Base Station should have no trouble communicating with sensors about 400 ft away.

If motion is detected, the recording is extended up to 60 seconds. Recording availability and storage in the SimpliSafe® App will depend on your service plan.

SimpliSafe self-monitoring If you don't want to pay a monthly fee, you can use the home security system without a monitoring plan, but going it alone limits how well the system works.
