What is Titleist AP2 Irons?

Titleist AP2 Irons tv commercials

Titleist AP2 irons are a popular and highly regarded line of irons from Titleist. These irons are designed to offer a blend of forgiveness, distance, and workability, making them a popular choice for golfers of all skill levels, from low handicappers to high handicappers.

One of the defining features of the AP2 irons is their construction. These irons are made using a multi-material design that features a forged carbon steel body, tungsten weighting, and a high-strength, high-density, forged steel face. This construction allows for a larger sweet spot, more forgiveness on off-center strikes, and improved distance on longer shots.

Another key feature of the AP2 irons is their progressive design. Each iron in the set is designed to offer specific performance characteristics tailored to its loft and skill level. The longer irons feature more tungsten weighting for increased forgiveness and launch, while the shorter irons are designed for maximum control and spin.

The AP2 irons have been updated several times over the years, with the most recent iteration being the Titleist 718 AP2 irons. These irons feature a slightly larger sweet spot and more forgiveness than previous models, while still maintaining the workability and shot shaping ability that has made them a favorite among better players.

Overall, the Titleist AP2 irons are a versatile and highly effective set of irons that are well-suited for golfers of all skill levels. Whether you're looking for distance, forgiveness, control, or any combination of these factors, the AP2 irons are a great choice that are sure to improve your game.

Titleist describes the Forged AP2 as “advanced performance, multi-material, dual cavity, technical forged irons providing traditional solid feel, looks, and shot control for the skilled player.” Uhm, yeah. Let's crack the marketing mumbo-jumbo to see what we've really got here.

August 2017 In August 2017, Titleist released their 718 AP2 and 718 AP3 irons, to rave reviews from tour pros and amateurs alike. The next variation arrives March 1, when Titleist makes available the new limited all-black editions.

Today I had a fitting for new irons with the view of getting either AP1's or AP2's. The results were very similar, AP1's were slightly longer about 5 yards. The AP1's launched higher and (should) be more forgiving. The AP2's looked noticeably smaller at address but produced a better ball flight and sound off the face.

The P on a golf club stands for pitching wedge, sometimes labelled as PW. The pitching wedge is one of the most favored golf clubs in a player's bag because of its ease of use and versatility.

Tiger switched from Titleist's Professional 90 (a wound golf ball) to a Nike Tour Accuracy golf ball in 2000 (a solid-core golf ball), and promptly won his next four majors… no big deal.

2023 Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 RS: 493 hp/196 mph So, if you want the fastest 2023 Porsche 718 0-60 time and the highest speed, invest in the GT4 RS or the top-level trim.

The AP3 is Titleist's latest iron and the one that appeals to low and high handicappers. It's not as long as the AP1 but the seven-iron loft is one degree weaker, so you are splitting hairs on distance. It's not as forgiving as the AP1 and this is was evident in the lower irons.

Titleist is trusted by more Tour Professionals than any other brand and is the #1 Ball in Golf.

Ball speeds are greater with 714 AP1 over 712 AP1 while AP2's are similar. The NEW 714 AP's both have lower spin characteristics over the 712 AP line. 714 AP1 tends to launch higher than 712 AP1 with lower spin for greater distance. 714 AP2 promotes lower ball flight with less spin to appeal to the stronger player.

Forged irons are created using a single piece, or billet, of steel. Heat still plays an important part in this process, but instead of heating the steel up until it is liquid to be poured into a mold, the billet of steel is heated up until it is malleable.

New Titleist 712 AP1 and 712 AP2 irons have been launched and have a release date of November 2011.

The clubs are identified by a number (3, 4, 5, etc.) on the sole of each club, except for the pitching wedge which will have a "PW" or "P." Other irons may be available for purchase separately, including a 2-iron and additional wedges (gap wedge, sand wedge, lob wedge).

What does ARP mean? ARP stands for “Asset Recovery Product.” Why is it stamped “ARP”? The club is stamped because it is returned back to TaylorMade and it cannot be sold as new condition. TaylorMade uses the stamp as an indicator for their reference.
