Today I had a fitting for new irons with the view of getting either AP1's or AP2's. The results were very similar, AP1's were slightly longer about 5 yards. The AP3 is Titleist's latest iron and the one that appeals to low and high handicappers. It's not as long as the AP1 but the seven-iron loft is one degree weaker, so you are splitting hairs on distance. It's not as forgiving as the AP1 and this is was evident in the lower irons.

Ball speeds are greater with 714 AP1 over 712 AP1 while AP2's are similar. The NEW 714 AP's both have lower spin characteristics over the 712 AP line. 714 AP1 tends to launch higher than 712 AP1 with lower spin for greater distance. 714 AP2 promotes lower ball flight with less spin to appeal to the stronger player.
