Snow White
The screenplay was written by Craig Mazin and Evan Spiliotopoulos and is based on characters created by Evan Daugherty. (These, like the first film, were inspired by the fairy tale "Snow White" compiled by the Brothers Grimm, as well as "The Snow Queen" by Hans Christian Andersen.).
In the film's retelling of the tale, Snow White grows up imprisoned by her evil stepmother, Queen Ravenna, a powerful sorceress. After Snow White escapes into the forest, Ravenna enlists Eric the Huntsman to capture her, but he becomes her companion in a quest to overthrow Ravenna.
Like its predecessor, the film is violent and dark, despite the fairytale references and themes. Kids may think it's going to be like the hit TV show Once Upon a Time, but the movie has intense scenes like an infant's death, startling betrayals, and many deaths (though only a few are shown up close).
Later versions, which are far more popular, have the prince kiss Snow White, which breaks the curse. In this version, William does kiss Snow White after she's poisoned, but it is apparently the Huntsman who resurrects her (though she ends up with William anyway).
'Snow White and the Huntsman' from personal opinion was neither a good or awful film. It was visually stunning and had a terrific Charlize Theron, but suffered from a badly miscast Kristen Stewart, a clunky script and muddled story. 'Huntsman: Winter's War' was at times enjoyable, but uneven prequel/sequel.

First released in 1937, its themes of vanity and jealousy are just as relevant today. So too is the resilience that Snow White shows in the face of bullying and tough times. Watching this movie could be a good chance to talk through these issues with your children.
Most teens can handle it. I would recommend the Multiplayer mode for age 13, Campaign for age 15, and zombies for age 16. Parents should also know that content such as the blood and cursing can be turned off in the settings.

Here's the funny thing: "The Huntsman: Winter's War" is better than the original. Which isn't to say it's a great film, or even a good one. But it's a breezily entertaining piece of escapist claptrap with some fine actors who make a brave go of some awkward dialogue and plotting.
The kiss planted on the sleeping princess's lips is the offensive action. There was actually no kiss in the Grimm Brothers' Snow White story. The kiss was spliced into Disney's 1937 Snow White film from the Grimms' other tale, Sleeping Beauty (“Briar Rose”).
