Though the exact circumstances of Allison's Teen Wolf return are a bit hazy, it is clear that the Nogitsune instigated her resurrection, and as such, likely had a hand in altering the state she returned in and what she would and would not remember.

'A' sends Alison a text message, saying "I buried your mom the same way I watched her bury you". Towards the climax of the episode, 'A' attacks Alison in her house and chokes her, almost killing her. They fight until Emily comes and saves Alison.

Melissa thought that Spencer had killed her, so she buried her, not knowing she was still alive. This suffocated Bethany to death. Bethany's unconscious body. Bethany's body is discovered many years later and was misidentified as Alison for quite some time until it is revealed that Alison is alive.

Charlotte DiLaurentis Later that night, Alison was hit in the back of the head with a rock by Charlotte DiLaurentis and buried alive underneath the gazebo construction site by Jessica DiLaurentis who was under the impression she was dead and was protecting Charlotte. Alison was pulled out of her grave by Carla Grunwald, however.

The main issue that separated Scott and Allison for good was Allison's mother's death as a result of werewolf activities. Though the scenario was deemed an accident, Allison's grief created insurmountable tension between her and Scott.

"A" continued to mess with Alison and her mother, Jessica DiLaurentis, who believes "A" to be Spencer Hastings. After Alison's disappearance, "A" went away for a year but after the corpse of Bethany Young (believed to be Alison at the time) was found, she re-emerged.

In the penultimate episode of season five, not only was Ali DiLaurentis found guilty of murder in the first degree, but the rest of the Liars -- Spencer, Aria and Emily -- joined Hanna in prison when they were arrested as accessories to Mona's murder.
