Rapman, then known for his work on musical and short film projects, released the original Blue Story trilogy on YouTube in 2014, which was inspired by his real-life experiences as a working-class boy from Lewisham attending a school in Peckham, whilst both areas are in a postcode war.
Blue Story is based around events of Rapman's own personal experiences growing up in Deptford, in the London Borough of Lewisham, and being sent to Peckham, in the London Borough of Southwark, thereby crossing gang-affiliated borders. The film depicts real life gangs Peckham Boys and Ghetto Boys.
The American song lyric reference to "the ranks of the boys in blue" could refer to the American Civil War, using a common phrase for the Union troops. The United States forces in the Spanish American War of 1898 also wore blue uniforms.
It all started in the 19th century when pastel colors started becoming popularized for babies. The two colors were first chosen because of how they complimented hair and eye colors. Blue was meant to go with blue eyes and/or blonde hair, and pink for brown eyes and/or brown hair.
