History. Eggo waffles were invented in 1953 by the American inventor Frank Dorsa, who developed a process by which waffles could be cooked, frozen, and packaged for consumers.

They were called “Froffles” which was a combination of the words “frozen” and “waffles”. Brilliant. But what ended up happening is they realized most people were just calling them “Eggos” for short because they had an eggy flavor to them. This made them switch the official name to Eggo.
