Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee

Today, Congresswoman Suzan DelBene (WA-01) issued the following statement after the House Democratic Caucus unanimously voted to confirm her as Chair of the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee (DCCC), a critical position in House Leadership.

The Democratic National Committee (DNC) is part of the United States Democratic Party. The committee coordinates strategy to support Democratic Party candidates throughout the country for local, state, and national office, as well as works to establish a "party brand".

Presidential, House and Senate candidates must designate a campaign committee. This "authorized committee" takes in contributions and make expenditures on behalf of the campaign.

Americans for Democratic Action (ADA) is the nation's oldest liberal lobbying group, founded in 1947 by such liberal stalwarts as Eleanor Roosevelt, Hubert Humphrey and John Kenneth Galbraith. ADA is dedicated to social and economic justice.

They evaluate presidential nominees for executive and judicial posts and provide oversight of federal government operations.

In such party organizations, the committee would typically be made up of delegates elected at a party congress. In those states where it constituted the state power, the central committee made decisions for the party between congresses and usually was (at least nominally) responsible for electing the politburo.

Committees are the operating system of an association. Committees involve members in the development and delivery of services, represent member opinion in decision-making, and help serve member needs through interaction.

Persuading voters is the essence of a political campaign. Advertising, theme songs, stump speeches, and even negative campaigning have been around since our country began, and each advance in technology since then has offered new opportunities for candidates to persuade voters.

Democratic platforms seek to promote social programs, labor unions, consumer protection, workplace safety regulation, equal opportunity, disability rights, racial equity, regulations against environmental pollution, and criminal justice reform.

Committees monitor on-going governmental operations, identify issues suitable for legislative review, gather and evaluate information, and recommend courses of action to the Senate.

Functions of a Committee The primary function of a committee is to contribute to the efficient operation of an organization. In most cases, a committee is concerned with the communication of information and with assisting the leadership in the decision-making process by providing needed information.
