Sprite is ringing in the holiday season with a new holiday commercial celebrating Black families – both kith and kin. Directed by comedian Eric André, the 'Sprite Holiday Special' is a modern take on the old school holiday special with skits starring Black actors and improv artists.

It tells the fictional story of “Mrs. Hayes,” who finds community in her neighbors after losing her husband in the Vietnam War, including “Billy.” He surprises the woman by fixing her Bel Air, which she affectionately calls “old beauty,” even when it doesn't start in the opening scene.

Running alongside Coca-Cola's 'Holidays Are Coming' advert, the new campaign marks 100 years since Coca-Cola created its first festive activity and builds on its association with the festive period.

This logo was used in the United States until 2006, and similar variants were used in other countries until this year as well. The brand's slogan was changed to "Obey Your Thirst", and jingles containing it became urban-oriented, featuring a hip-hop theme.

In the end, it is clear that the commercial's purpose is to show viewers that a Chevy will be there for many years of your life and through all of life's ups and downs, similar to the dog in the commercial.

The story of 'Mrs. Hayes' may be fictional but the core theme of intentional community rings true throughout the entire film. Mrs. Hayes experiences immense loss, but that doesn't hold her back from gaining the love of her chosen family, namely her motherly relationship with a young boy named Billy.

Although each advert is very different from the next, the overarching theme of Coca-Cola's advertising strategy is happiness. Since the 19th Century, Coca-Cola has been selling its drinks by selling happiness in a bottle, and this doesn't look set to change anytime soon.
