The new branding - Cicis - removes the chain name's apostrophe and replaces the previous tagline of “Better. Believe It.” with “Beyond Pizza.”

C.C. Pazzini is the new fictional spokesperson for Cicis Pizza.

Cici's has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection and announced its sale to D&G Investors. The coronavirus pandemic has accelerated the downfall of all-you-can-eat buffets. In bankruptcy filings, Cici's said that it had between $10 million and $50 million in assets and $50 million to $100 million in liabilities.

In November 2015, the company began a new marketing campaign which included the renaming of the company to Cicis (by dropping the apostrophe, making the second 'C' lowercase and dropping the word 'pizza' from its name), along with the addition of a new logo and redesigned website. Other etymologists suggest it is related to the Lombardic word bizzo or pizzo, which means mouthful, and is related to the English word bite.

Pizza became as popular as it did in part because of the sheer number of Italian immigrants: they made up 4 million of the 20 million immigrants who came to the U.S. between 1880 and 1920. With them, they brought their taste buds and pizza-making skills.
