Bud Knight is a medieval knight with blue armor plates on his chest, shoulder, hands, feet, and crouch. He has a cape, and he has chainmail underneath the blue armor. On his chest armor plate it says "BUD LIGHT" encased with a white border.

That all changed on February 3, 2019, when viewers of CBS' broadcast of Super Bowl LIII saw the Bud Knight unseated in a joust by a character from “Game of Thrones,” who – in a dark turn – proceeded to crush the Knight's helmet, with the man still inside of it. A dragon then laid waste to the village hosting the event.

After Dylan Mulvaney, the transgender influencer, promoted the beer on Instagram, conservatives called for a boycott. The fallout has grown to include the retailer Target and the country singer Garth Brooks.

The beer brand's nostalgia-packed ad, released Thursday on Youtube, features beachgoers, fishermen and cookout attendees enjoying Bud Light beer as they weather seasonal challenges like sunburn, heat and thunderstorms. The '70s disco hit "Good Times'' by Chic provides the soundtrack for the 60-second spot.

The purpose of that ad was to introduce a “new era” of the brand to younger drinkers, according to a Anheuser-Busch executive, who told CNN in January that the brand wanted to “bring in new life and a new point of view” for the 41-year-old brand.

The brewer retired the pooch in 1989. The dog portraying the original Spuds was a female whose real name was Honey Tree Evil Eye. She died from kidney failure in 1993 at her home in suburban Chicago.

This latest commercial follows the brand's "Easy to Drink, Easy to Enjoy" ad that debuted during this year's Super Bowl. The promo features actor Miles Teller from "Top Gun: Maverick" dancing in a living room with his his real-life wife, Keleigh Sperry, and their dog, Bugsy, after cracking open two cans of Bud Light.

Bud Light only has an ABV of 4.2% and contains 110 calories per can. Because of its lower ABV and fewer calories, it has been marketed as a healthier option. Still, Bud Light's ABV ranks on par with other mild beers like Coors Light, Michelob Ultra, Miller Lite, Busch Light, and Corona.

The display of marksmanship announced Rock's own boycott of the popular beer brand after it had partnered with transgender influencer Dylan Mulvaney. In that video, Rock declared, "f--- Bud Light."
