PARENT COMPANY Nestlé Baking is a division of Nestlé USA, which is owned by Nestlé S.A. of Vevey, Switzerland - the world's largest food company. First Offered in 1939, NESTLÉ® TOLL HOUSE® Semi-Sweet Chocolate Morsels are the original chocolate chip and the best-selling chocolate morsels in America.

Origin. Chocolate chips were created with the invention of chocolate chip cookies in 1937 when Ruth Graves Wakefield of the Toll House Inn in the town of Whitman, Massachusetts added cut-up chunks of a semi-sweet Nestlé chocolate bar to a cookie recipe. (The Nestlé brand Toll House cookies is named for the inn.)

Nestlé Toll House Semi-Sweet Morsels Mini Size Bulk Mini Chocolate Chips 25 pounds. America's favorite chocolate chips for over 70 years - classic, delicious, and versatile. Gluten free.

They are the same product with a different name. Nestles took the name morsels and Hershey and Ghirardelli went with the title of chips. Although both are the same the product came when the chocolate chip cookie was invented using semi sweet chocolate shaved from a bar of chocolate.

Milk chocolate is sweeter than semi, as the name might imply, and will likely appeal to people with more childlike wonder or more of a sweet tooth. These chips contain milk powder, so they have a lighter hue than semi-sweet, and typically contain a quarter cocoa content.

In 2009, the brand replaced artificial vanillin with real vanilla in the semi-sweet morsels. Last year, Nestlé did this same swap for the milk chocolate morsels. Meanwhile, the recipes for its dark chocolate and bittersweet chocolate morsels have had no changes since they were first introduced.

They are specifically made to keep their shape in the heat of the baking process. This is done by using waxes and other extra solidifying ingredients. Chocolate morsels, however, are more natural chocolate and will melt when baked.

The small size helps them melt faster than bigger chips. And if a recipe calls for chopped chocolate, using mini bits will save you the task of chopping.
