This may sound basic but The Octonauts is really good at teaching kids (and parents) about marine biology and geology. Our family has learned a lot from it, especially as we often follow up with our own research about sea pigs, cone snails, long-armed squid and the many other unusual creatures that are featured.
There's representation for everybody and their lives and there's a lot they let you interpret to make your own. There's many lovable characters and every one has something new to teach your child. All of my kids love it, even the 13 year old who also likes marine biology because of this.
The BBC version of the Octonauts has different voice actors for Peso, Dashi, Tweak and Pinto (Peso's little brother). Barnacles, Kwazii and Inkling are the same. Peso is the most grating as instead of his hispanic accent he has a young boy's British accent (ditto for Pinto).
