Jameson Black Barrel is a special blend of Jameson Irish Whiskey, made with aged double-distilled spirits and matured in deep charred oak barrels. The result is a smoother, richer whiskey with a complex taste. Jameson Black Barrel is perfect for sipping neat or on the rocks.

Jameson Black Barrel (previously known as Select Reserve in some markets) is blended from two whiskies: a small-batch grain whiskey distilled at Midleton Distillery once a year and matured in heavily charred ex-bourbon barrels, and a malted and unmalted barley pot still whiskey aged in sherry casks.

Jameson Black Barrel is a whiskey comprised of (a high proportion of) single pot still and grain whiskey aged first in a mix of ex-sherry and ex-bourbon. The whiskey is then aged in extra charred ex-bourbon barrels, hence the name.

Black Barrel has lots of first-fill bourbon and sherry casks in the mix, giving it a much richer flavour than regular Jameson, with a strong sherried note.

8-16 years Jameson Black Barrel is a whiskey comprised of (a high proportion of) single pot still and grain whiskey aged first in a mix of ex-sherry and ex-bourbon. The whiskey is then aged in extra charred ex-bourbon barrels, hence the name. The age of the whiskey ranges from 8-16 years of age.

It is aged in former first-fill Bourbon barrels that have been double-charred, meaning originally charred like any Bourbon would be, and then, once emptied, the barrel was charred a second time, hence the Black Barrel in the name.

Jameson Irish Whiskey is made by blending rich pot still whiskey made from both malted and unmalted barley, with the finest grain whiskey, both distilled 3 times for smoothness. And while our barley is all grown locally in Ireland, our water comes from the Dungourney river, which flows right through our distillery.

Tips for tippling: Black Barrel is what you want for cocktails, especially when it comes to mixing an Old Fashioned. Black Barrel has similar vanilla notes to Jameson Original, but they come out much bolder thanks to the flame charring process its bourbon barrels go through.

Unlike Scotch, Jameson adheres to the Irish whiskey tradition. Scots set fire to the peat to dry the barley and hence the characteristic smokiness, but Jameson does not. Instead, it uses hot clean air in its malting process. But that's not all, it also uses a combination of malted and unmalted barley.

The distillation process is what makes Jameson so special Most standard whiskies you're going to get are going to be at a push twice-distilled, however Jameson goes a step further by adding another step to the distillation process. It's all triple-distilled for a super rich, smooth taste.

Really enjoyable. Jameson 18 greets the palate with a wonderful surge of toffee that moves right into old-timey cream soda, both sweet and a little woody. The butter from the nose unites with the cream soda and some nuttiness, with just a touch of cinnamon. This may be Irish Whiskey, but it tastes like Greek baklava.
