One of the planet's most prominent features is the Great Red Spot which, unbeknownst to the humans on Earth, is the entry point to a vast industrial refinery belonging to Balem Abrasax. The refinery is suspended in Jupiter's atmosphere with advanced technology, and is completely hidden by vast layers of hurricane.

Jupiter Jones is the daughter of Maximilian Jones and Aleksa Bolotnikov. She grows up in poverty in Chicago, and her prospects are poor because she and her mother are undocumented immigrants. Unknown to anyone, Jupiter is the genetic recurrence of Seraphi Abrasax, the deceased matriarch of the House of Abrasax.

According to one ancient Roman myth, Jupiter was the top god. He had two brothers and three sisters. The three boys got to divide up the world, with Jupiter getting the sky, Neptune getting the ocean and Pluto getting the underworld. Jupiter was powerful, and he really liked to throw his weight around.

Jupiter is usually thought to have originated as a sky god. His identifying implement is the thunderbolt and his primary sacred animal is the eagle, which held precedence over other birds in the taking of auspices and became one of the most common symbols of the Roman army (see Aquila).

The 2015 science-fiction epic was ridiculed by film critics and didn't make it past the $50 million mark at the U.S. box office, despite a budget north of $150 million. It turns out that budget was only half of what the Wachowskis originally proposed.

"Jupiter Ascending" is an example of a particularly depressing sort of bad blockbuster: one made by artists that you might not know were artists unless you'd seen their other films. It's not "so bad it's good," which would at least promise a certain lunkheaded obsessiveness.
