In terms of specs, the 2023 Hyundai Ioniq 5 is very similar to the 2022 model year. The powertrain output is the same, and the EPA combined range is expected to be the same - with one exception. All-wheel drive versions will be rated at 266 miles (488 km), compared to 256 miles (412 km) previously.

New 2022 and 2023 IONIQ 5 vehicles purchased from an authorized U.S.-based (excluding Alaska) Hyundai dealer on or before December 31, 2023 qualify for limited complimentary charging. Two years of 30-minute complimentary charging sessions at Electrify America charging stations begins upon date of vehicle purchase.

The list of new things includes:

  • Digital Rearview Mirror available on the Limited trim.
  • Wi-Fi Hotspot available as standard (Requires enrollment/subscription)
  • Rear side airbags - standard.
  • Rear Outboard Seatbelt Pretensioners and Load Limiters - standard.

2022 Hyundai Ioniq

  • Highs Impressive fuel-economy ratings, conventional driving experience, handsome and eco-friendly cabin.
  • Lows Unenthusiastic acceleration and handling, plug-in hybrid includes compromises, limited cubby storage.

  • High performance 800 volt technology. IONIQ 5 is one of the first production vehicles with an 800V battery system.
  • Single and dual electric motors.
  • Electric all-wheel-drive (HTRAC).
  • Adjustable regenerative braking.

Only electric cars equipped with a CCS connector can use a Supercharger. Hyundai IONIQ 5 and Kia EV6 models currently have issues charging when connected to Tesla's newer V3 units (charging on V2 units works fine). Although the Tesla app doesn't show which units are V2 or V3, chargers with an output of 250kW are V3.

The Ioniq 5 comes with a portable 120-v charging cord, allowing you to charge from a regular household outlet. This cord has an adjustable power output from 6-amps to 12-amps, set to 6-amps from the factory.

What's New for 2023? As the Ioniq 5 just debuted last year, Hyundai makes subtle equipment changes, but enough to bump the car's EPA-rating higher in a few areas. All-wheel-drive models now get an EPA-estimated 266 miles of range, up from last year's 256-mile rating.

Range aside, the Ioniq 5's most vital attribute is that it's Hyundai's first vehicle residing on the E-GMP platform with an 800V battery architecture. Porsche pioneered this technology on a mass scale with the 2020 Taycan, and the fast charging speeds are impossible to ignore.

The car has build quality issues, safety concerns with seat belts and airbags, and faults in the warning system. There have been problems with the braking system and the charging pins can become dislodged. The Ioniq 5 lacks interior storage and has a rear load cover that some owners find inconvenient.

The Tesla network will be able to support the charging speeds on Hyundai's advanced Electric-Global Modular Platform vehicles, including IONIQ 5 and IONIQ 6 and the upcoming IONIQ 7.
