One of my favorite parts of bullet train is the tension between good luck, bad luck, karma, and fate. There's also a second tension between revenge and justice but that's more minor and doesn't as much attention or screen time.

The biggest theme that emerged was selfishness vs. Sacrifice. Some people live life looking out for themselves, while others consider the needs and interests greater than their own. The greatest villains embody selfishness while the greatest heroes embody sacrifice.

At its core, Train to Busan teaches audiences the importance and impact of sacrificing things for loved ones. This is mostly shown through Seok-woo, who will even put his own life on the line for his daughter. This is shown subtly, as the film's start sees him looking at his child as an independent person.
