double-crested lizard Dilophosaurus means “double-crested lizard” in Greek, a name that refers to its headgear. The dinosaur had two thin, bony crests running from its snout to behind its eye socket.

Many people are at least vaguely familiar with Dilophosaurus thanks to its bit-part in the first Jurassic Park movie. It was that small-ish, cooing theropod with a pair of crests on its blunt head and that turned out to have a shocking extendible neck-frill and the ability to spit venom like a cobra.

It was slender and lightly built, and the skull was proportionally large, but delicate. The snout was narrow, and the upper jaw had a gap or kink below the nostril. It had a pair of longitudinal, arched crests on its skull; their complete shape is unknown, but they were probably enlarged by keratin.

“Most [toy dinosaurs] were driven by popular art” when they first appeared on the market in the 1950s, Knol says.

Dilophosaurus was a fast-moving meat-eating dinosaur. A kink in its upper jaw may mean that it ate a certain kind of food, or attacked by gripping and holding on to prey - modern crocodiles have a similar kink. The pair of thin bony crests on its head may have been for display.

The top speed of Dilophosaurus is around 30-mph.

It had short arms with three-fingered hands and strong legs with four-toed feet (one toe was a dewclaw). Both fingers and toes had claws. It had hollow bones and an S-shaped, curved neck. Dilophosaurus had loosely attached jaws, which would have made killing animals with its teeth difficult.

It is a carnivorous dinosaur, that mainly preys on fish and smaller plant-eating dinosaurs. The pronunciation of its name is Dye-LOW-foe-sore-us. The name meaning in Greek is 'two-crested lizard'. An adult Dilophosaurus may have a length of 7 meters (23 ft), a weight of 400 kg (880 lb).

The original model for the T. rex toy featured in this video came out of a 3-D printer, but many toy figurines are still sculpted in clay by hand. However, once the primary model is made it provides the basis for a silicon mold that in turn lets workers create a few hard plastic molds that can be handled.

Polymers or plastic pellets are introduced in the machine to be melted. The pellets mix together with dye at high temperature and they form a thick paste. This paste, or hot molten plastic, is shot by the machine into the molds cavities. Then it cools, it hardens, and, now a solid object, it is ejected.

Dilophosaurus was a carnivorous theropod during the early Jurassic period. It is highly recognizable due to the two flat, spreading crests atop its head. The predator was about 20 feet (6 meters) in length from head to tail, but stood only about as tall as an adult human.
