R.I.P.D. isn't nearly as bad as its near-deafening advance buzz indicated – though, really, what movie could be? – but that doesn't mean the laughs and gasps are satisfyingly abundant in this loud and clunky sci-fi fantasy action-comedy.

RIPD 2: Rise of the Damned is actually better than the original movie. The team behind the surprise spinoff RIPD 2: Rise Of the Damned understands a cardinal rule of prequels: They should stand on their own, rather than endlessly calling back to the film that spawned them.

Parents need to know that Zombieland: Double Tap is the horror-comedy sequel to Zombieland, set 10 years after the first movie. It's a worthy companion piece to the original, rather than a pale imitation, and the characters' chemistry is as strong as ever. But iffy/mature material makes it best for older teens and up.
