2023 BMW X3 - Specs & Features

In BMW speak, xDrive means all-wheel drive (AWD), which bumps up the overall cost from the base sDrive30i model. The 30i references the entry-level engine. In this case, that engine is a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder (248 horsepower, 258 lb-ft of torque).

Following a light styling refresh last year, the 2023 X3 sees few changes. The remote proximity keyless entry system is now standard across the lineup and the optional Premium package no longer includes gesture controls for the iDrive infotainment system.

The 2023 BMW X3 is available in four trim levels: X3 sDrive30i, X3 xDrive30i, X3 M30i, and X3 M.

The entry-level X3 xDrive30i is powered by a turbocharged 2.0L four-cylinder rated at 248 hp and 258 lb-ft of torque and paired with an 8-speed automatic. For improved fuel efficiency, the X3 xDrive30e uses a plug-in hybrid powerplant consisting of a 2.0L turbo four-cylinder with with an electric motor and battery.

Successful i4 lineup expands with the all-wheel drive, 396-horsepower i4 xDrive40. The 7 Series adds new electrified models: 750e xDrive PHEV and i7 eDrive50. The 6-cylinder 740i will be available with xDrive intelligent all-wheel drive.

Which BMW X3 model is best? Our favourite version is the xDrive20d in xLine trim. The 190bhp four-cylinder 2.0-litre diesel engine has 48V mild-hybrid assistance and accelerates from 0.60mph in 7.9sec. It's an efficient choice, and entry-level xLine trim includes plenty of equipment.
