In response, the M&M's brand pretended to retire its iconic spokescandies for publicity and announced that they would be replaced by Maya Rudolph, whom everyone can agree on.

The M&M name actually represents the two people who came up with the idea. M&M stands for Mars and Murrie - named after Forrest E. Mars Sr. – the founder of Mars – and Bruce Murrie, the son of Hershey Chocolate's president William F. R.

Her debut included a song entitled “I'm Just Gonna Be Me.” (Although the purple confection was added to the spokescandy lineup, no purple candies were added inside M&M packages.) Conservatives immediately suggested that the new purple candy must be transgender, and the candies were labeled “woke.”

The candy brand announced that Maya Rudolph would replace its promotional cartoon characters, which have been the focus of a partisan backlash. A controversy erupted when M&M's made changes to its roster of characters and to the shoes they wear.

The brand tapped Maya into the role following an uproar over recent changes to the spokescandies - including swapping the Green M&M's white go-go boots with sneakers. "America, let's talk," a statement posted to M&M's Instagram read. "In the last year, we've made some changes to our beloved spokescandies.

m is the standard abbreviation for metre (or meter) in the International System of Units (SI). However, m is also used as an abbreviation for mile. M is used as the unit abbreviation for molarity. With money amounts, m or M can mean one million: For example, $5m is five million dollars.

In contrast, the M is actually made of an edible paper that is not water soluble, so it does not dissolve in water. But once all the dye (which essentially acts like a glue for the M to stick to the candy) has dissolved, the M detaches from the candy and floats up to the surface of the water.
