Calcium Limescale & Rust Remover, more commonly known as CLR, is a household cleaning product used for dissolving stains, such as calcium, lime, and iron oxide deposits. Its main ingredients include water, lactic acid and gluconic acid.

Apply directly to the stain with a brush, cloth or sponge. After 2 minutes rinse promptly with cold water. Never leave CLR Calcium, Lime and Rust Remover on an area for longer than two minutes. If the stain does not disappear, repeat this process and add more CLR Calcium, Lime and Rust Remover solution as necessary.

CLR may etch older sinks, tubs, and tiles. Avoid contact with wood, clothing, wallpaper, carpeting, natural stones, brass, copper, aluminum, galvanized metals, any painted, coated or sealed surfaces. Clean spills immediately.

However, this doesn't mean that combining the two will create a super-cleaner - in fact, it actually puts your health at serious risk. Mixing vinegar and bleach together releases a poisonous chlorine gas, which can be fatal if inhaled at high enough concentrations.

Now, CLR is actually an EPA Safer Choice winner, meaning it's a safer choice for humans and for the environment. But, it's also a heavy duty cleaning product that requires some precautions.

Mixing chlorine bleach and cleaners like dish soap can be harmful to your health. Mixing bleach with other cleaners can release toxic gases.

Don't leave CLR for longer than two minutes. Always rinse away with cool water after two minutes of contact.

Also from their website: Do not use CLR on wood, clothing, wallpaper, carpeting, marble, terrazzo, natural stone, colored grout, painted or metallic glazed surfaces, plastic laminates, Formica or aluminum. Perhaps lacquer could be considered a "metallic glazed surface."

If necessary. If you'd rather not remove the showerhead dilute CLR 50:50 with water in a bowl big enough to submerge the shower head in CLR. Do not overfill as it can cause a spill.

DO not use CLR on natural stone or marble, terrazzo, colored grout, painted or metallic glazed surfaces, plastic laminates, Formica, aluminum, steam irons, leaded crystal, refinished tubs or any damaged or cracked surface. CLR may etch older sinks, tubs and tiles. CLR is corrosive.
