An adventurous teenager sails out on a daring mission to save her people. During her journey, Moana meets the once-mighty demigod Maui, who guides her in her quest to become a master way-finder. The ending of Moana saw the title character overcome her fear and trust Te Ka, and in doing so she showed that the pain of the past didn't have to define someone in the future, an attitude which freed Te Fiti from her own pain, and freed her people from their stagnant beliefs.

"The original joke was that this cranky rooster was based on John and the pig was based on me," says Clements.

Having Patience Is Always Beneficial: Patience is the key to happiness, they say, and nearly the entire film embodies that belief. For example, Moana must find enough patience to learn how to sail, patience in Maui ( Dwayne Johnson ) who doesn't trust her at first, and patience throughout her entire journey.

Disney Changed Moana's Title In Italy Due To An Unfortunate Name Clash. The Italian-language version of Moana kept the main character's name as Vaiana, but switched the title to Oceana to avoid referencing a prominent adult film star well-known in Italy, Moana Pozzi.
