WEMO, a subsidiary of Belkin, are a series of products from Belkin that enable users to control home electronics remotely. The product suite includes electrical plugs, motion sensors, light switches, cameras, light bulbs, and a mobile app.

WeMo devices communicate using the Universal Plug & Play (UPnP) protocol over HTTP on port 49153. uPnP supports device discovery and service advertisement and all sorts of other things, so it should be possible to configure a WeMo without the app.

The second generation version of Belkin's Wemo Mini Smart Plug has been found to contain a buffer overflow vulnerability that could be weaponized by a threat actor to inject arbitrary commands remotely.

The Wemo Mini Smart Plug V2 (model F7C063) from 2019 is vulnerable to a buffer overflow attack that can be used execute commands remotely. Basically, the Wemo Mini Smart Plug V2 has a 30 character name limit that can be overwritten, leading to an exploitable memory buffer error.

Can I use a Wemo Account without an active internet connection? No. A Wemo Account requires an active internet connection to function. As soon as your Wemo devices are linked with a Wemo Account, you will only be able to control them on a network with an active internet connection.
