The first time blizzard was used to describe the weather appeared in an Estherville, Iowa, newspaper in March 1870. The paper was referring to the city getting PUNCHED by a strong winter storm. Blizzards are dangerous winter storms that are a combination of blowing snow and wind resulting in low visibilities.

Why does Dairy Queen serve blizzards flipping them upside down? It's apart of the experience. A blizzard is just soft served ice cream with toppings in it that's blended all together. If the blizzard is flipped and it falls out of the cup, you are now eligible for a free blizzard.

Our phenomenal story began with the 10-cent sale of a then unnamed product on August 4, 1938, in Kankakee, Illinois. A father and son partnership in Green River, Illinois, had been experimenting with a soft frozen dairy product for some time.

Where did the name “Dairy Queen®” come from? "Grandpa McCullough," the man who was the driving force behind the creation of Dairy Queen® soft serve, dubbed the store "Dairy Queen®" because he believed his soft serve was a "queen" among dairy products, the epitome of freshness and wholesomeness.

Although most common in winter, Plains blizzards also occur in autumn and spring. The meteorological "stage" is set when a mass of cold polar air moves rapidly southward from higher latitudes and encounters a strong northward flow of moist tropical air from lower latitudes.

1. It all started back in 1938 with a killer recipe. The original formula for DQ's soft-serve ice cream was created in 1938 - though the first location of Dairy Queen didn't open until 1940 in Joliette, IL. The shop is still there and is now a city-designated landmark.

Obviously the Blizzard is number one. Blizzards are the whole reason you go to Dairy Queen! Not only can you feel the magic when the worker turns the Blizzard upside down and the ice cream doesn't move, but Blizzards also come in numerous flavors like Oreo, Butterfinger, cookie dough (my all-time fav) and more.

Blizzard Entertainment is a premier developer and publisher of entertainment software, and the company is renowned for creating some of the industry's most critically acclaimed games, including World of Warcraft®, Overwatch®, Hearthstone®, StarCraft®, and Diablo®.

(abbrev. BLZD)- A blizzard means that the following conditions are expected to prevail for a period of 3 hours or longer: Sustained wind or frequent gusts to 35 miles an hour or greater; and. Considerable falling and/or blowing snow (i.e., reducing visibility frequently to less than ¼ mile)

Why does Dairy Queen serve blizzards flipping them upside down? It's a quality test. There must be an overrun level of around 40% meaning that the ratio of ice cream to air is 40%. This makes for thick enough ice cream that can hold its shape upside down, and still be soft enough to qualify as soft serve.

Technically, our soft serve does not qualify to be called ice cream. To be categorized as ice cream, the minimum butterfat content must be ten percent, and our soft serve has only five percent butterfat content.
