Evinrude's all-new E-TEC G2 250 HP includes integrated hydraulic steering: hoses coming from the steering assembly go directly to a casing integral to the outboard body itself. There's no external rod and cylinder exposed to corrosion, no third-party steering parts to complicate installation and adjustment.

2014 In 2014, Evinrude debuted the first G2 outboards with 3.4-liter engine blocks and horsepowers ranging from a 200 H.O. to 300.

The technology is considered 2-Stroke, Direct Injection. Evinrude E-TEC in fact, has cleaner exhaust emissions than a 4-stroke, it produces 5 to 10 times less Carbon Monoxide (CO) while idling or trolling.

The Evinrude G2 E-TEC is 29.48 per cent more fuel efficient than the E-TEC G1 (in simple terms you can go almost 30 per cent further with a G2 over a G1 on the same amount of gas). Or... The G1 uses a massive 41.8 per cent more fuel than a new G2.

Evinrude | What does E-TEC stand for? E-TEC is not an acronym, it doesn't stand for anything. E-TEC is the name we have chosen to apply to this new technology.

If fact, the E-TEC has proven more reliable than certain other outboards. BRP was so confident in the E-TEC's reliability that the manufacturer specs state the motor needs no break-in period, and will run for 300 hours or 3 years between scheduled maintenance.

The prospects for reopening would require substantial changes to production to allow for social separation and other health-related accommodations. Altogether, it made the most sense to shut down Evinrude and repurpose the plant for new products and consolidation.

Evinrude outboard engines have a serial number label that is located on the transom bracket. Serial number labels will reference the date of manufacture for the engine by providing visibility of the month and year the engine was produced.

The Evinrude E-TEC G2 140-HP weighs 390 lbs. (177 kg) and has an excellent power-to-weight ratio. Because it's built with an all-new two-stroke, 3-cylinder powerhead, this outboard weighs in at just 390 pounds.

The High-Performance Marine 2-Stroke Oil. Excellent for Evinrude® E-TEC™ factory-lean setting (replaces Evinrude XD100™ 2-Cycle Oil). Helps prevent deposits, protects against wear, has low smoke, protects against rust and has low aquatic toxicity.

The basic difference is the ho has about 10% more power. The HO's use more oil, they can't be set at the xd100 low oil consumption mode but the xd 100 oil is still recommended. Both are great motors. Screaming And Flying!

At an excellent cruising speed of about 20 knots, fuel consumption is great: with little more than 10 liters of fuel, consumption is just 1.3 liters per nautical mile. Despite the overall displacement of the boat, the maximum speed, too, is excellent: 43.7 knots, with a fuel consumption of just 2,26 l/nm.

Both of these popular outboard brands are tough to beat. On one hand, the Evinrude has lower maintenance and will exude lower environmentally hazardous emissions. Yamahas, in comparison, are known as the most reliable motors that have been around for 30+ years.

An ETEC well maintained should last 2000 hours or more. Oil is critical- XD 100. The parent company of Evinrude (BRP/Rotax) rates their two stroke piston airplane motors as having a service life of 600 hours. They rate their four stroke piston airplane motors as having a service life of up to 2000 hours.

If maintenance is a concern, which is usually is to most boaters, the Evinrude may win you over in the Evinrude vs Yamaha debate as the best outboard to go with. Less maintenance means more time out on the water, simply enjoying life.
